Give the set one job
Blazon attributes can be universal or conditional: attacking, defending, reinforcing, in-rally or against monsters. A larger conditional number contributes nothing outside its condition. Write the job before comparing percentages. For most mature accounts, one finished set for a frequent march is more useful than several expensive half-sets.
Complete the set before chasing perfection
Evony officially confirms that Blazons buff specific troop types and gain one random additional attribute at levels 10 and 15. Specialist guides document two sets per troop type and set bonuses at 2, 4 and 6 matching pieces. Check the current Set Attribute screen because the public official page does not list every live set value.
Price level 10 as a checkpoint
Two independent specialist tables list 11,900 cumulative experience to reach level 10. One six-piece trial therefore needs 71,400 experience. Moving those same six pieces from level 10 to level 15 needs another 138,000 experience. The second decision is almost twice the first, which is an excellent time to become less romantic about random attributes.
One level-10 candidate = 11,900 XP
Six level-10 candidates = 6 × 11,900 = 71,400 XP
Six level-10 to level-15 upgrades = 6 × 23,000 = 138,000 XP
The fourth attribute is still random. Evony has preserved the suspense at considerable expense.
Review the third attribute before paying for the fourth
- Continue: the new attribute supports the set’s declared job, or is a useful universal troop attribute, and the piece keeps the required set count.
- Pause: the base pair is strong but the new attribute serves a different role. Keep it locked for a future preset; do not make today’s set finance tomorrow’s idea.
- Recycle carefully: the new attribute is irrelevant to the job and a replacement candidate with a suitable base pair already exists. Confirm the transfer value before consuming anything.
Budget the failed interview
One current specialist guide reports that a level-10 Blazon costs 11,900 XP to build and returns 9,620 XP when consumed. Under that table, a replacement needs 2,280 additional XP to reach the same checkpoint. This is specialist-observed behaviour, not an official guarantee, so read the number shown by the Upgrade screen before confirming.
Replacement gap = 11,900 − displayed transfer value
Worked example: after reserving 71,400 XP for the first six candidates, you keep 12,600 XP for failed level-10 rolls. If each rejected piece displays 9,620 transfer XP, each replacement cycle costs 2,280 more XP. The reserve supports 5 cycles, uses 11,400 XP and leaves 1,200 XP. It also needs five suitable level-1 candidates. The budget does not promise five good rolls; random has declined that responsibility.
Lock first, upgrade second
Lock every plausible base pair before using automatic selection. Save and label presets only after checking all six pieces, the active set bonuses and the intended condition. A beautiful attacking roll in a defending preset is not flexible. It is simply visiting.
Use three stopping rules
- Do not push a candidate past level 10 until its third attribute has been reviewed against the set’s written job.
- Do not break a useful 6-piece bonus for one attractive mixed-set piece until the visible individual gain exceeds the lost set bonus and comparable battle reports support the change.
- Do not spend level-15, level-20 or cultivation materials on a temporary candidate. Random fourth attributes and later replacements are cheaper when the earlier stop was honest.

Evidence reviewed 2026-10-02. Official Evony material confirms troop-specific buffs, upgrade consumption and random attributes at levels 10 and 15. Set thresholds, XP totals, transfer loss and role-selection practice come from independent specialist guides and player testing. Verify the current Upgrade, Set Attribute and preset screens before consuming a Blazon because values and systems can change.
Let level 10 reveal the candidate. Then decide. Sunk experience is a record, not a promotion policy.
