Start with the rules Evony actually published
Evony’s Version 4.82.0 announcement, dated September 20, 2024, made three World Boss changes that still matter: attacks no longer produce wounded troops, ground deals increased damage to Bird of Hurricane, and ranged deals increased damage to Thunder Scorpion. The last two lines are boss-specific. They are not permission to send the same mounted preset at every large object on the map.
Version 4.95.1, announced March 28, 2025, changed the event to Tuesday through Sunday with a different boss each day. It also added single-attack Target Rewards, weekly Cumulative Rewards and extra rewards for the player or rally leader who pushes the boss through 80%, 60%, 40%, 20% or 0% HP. Those threshold rewards are limited to two per day, while dropped treasure can be scouted up to ten times per day.
Use the first free hit as a controlled comparison
- Record the baseline. Note the active boss, troop type and tier, troop count, main and assistant Generals, gear, creature, Monarch Talent, march-size buff and whether subordinate cities joined.
- Send the officially favoured troop when one is named. Use ground for Bird of Hurricane and ranged for Thunder Scorpion. For another boss, begin with the strongest role-complete march you actually own rather than a theoretical counter that is half built.
- Change one variable. Compare top tier only with the same troop type plus lower tiers, or compare one debuff setup with another. Do not change the General, gear, march-size item and troop mix together. Four simultaneous improvements produce a very expensive shrug.
- Compare damage, not the post-battle Hospital. Official rules remove World Boss wounded after the attack. The report’s damage number is the useful result.
- Keep the winner for the remaining attempts. Save a separate preset for that boss and label the test date. Recheck after a version change, a major march upgrade or an unexpected damage drop.
Do not turn a disagreement into a doctrine
Current specialist advice conflicts on lower-tier padding. A July 2026 Packsify guide says low tiers can reach the internal wounded limit sooner and reduce total damage. A July 2026 Evony Guide summary says adding lower cavalry tiers can increase damage in some tests. Both cannot be a universal rule. March size, tier depth, durability, boss type and account buffs can change the result, so run the A/B comparison instead of inheriting someone else’s screenshot.
The same caution applies to debuffs. Theria documents a 250% maximum reduction and boss-specific debuff categories, while another specialist summary says ordinary troop debuffs apply but attack-against-monster effects do not. Evony has not published a complete current damage formula. Test the exact debuff source on the same boss before rebuilding subordinate-city mayors or equipment for it.
Read the reward screen before buying another attempt
The official event has three separate reasons to continue: a single-hit Target Reward, weekly cumulative progress and ranking or threshold rewards. Check which one is still reachable. If the next attack only adds ranking damage and the account is not realistically moving a reward tier, the live Gem price is buying a prettier total rather than a better return.
Use free attempts for testing and confirmed targets first. Buy an extra attempt only when its displayed cost closes a specific reward gap or supports a planned alliance threshold. World Boss has no permanent wounded bill now. It can still send one to the Gem account, which is simply the Hospital wearing spectacles.
A worked comparison
Suppose a Bird of Hurricane baseline with one ground preset deals 1.80B damage. Adding lower ground tiers with the same account state produces 1.62B. The padded march is 10% lower, so keep the single-tier preset for the remaining attempts. On Thunder Scorpion, suppose mounted produces 1.20B and ranged produces 1.74B under otherwise matched conditions. Ranged is 45% higher, supporting the official troop-specific bonus on that account.
Those percentages are editorial arithmetic from example reports, not universal damage promises. Repeat the test with your own presets. One controlled comparison is more useful than a magnificent march copied from a player whose research tree, sub cities and dragon have never met yours.
Conditions and evidence limits
The no-wounded rule and the two named troop bonuses are official from Version 4.82.0. The Tuesday-to-Sunday schedule, daily boss rotation, Target and Cumulative Rewards, threshold limits and scouting limit are official from Version 4.95.1. Theria reflects that 2025 update; Packsify and the Evony Guide summary were published or updated in July 2026. A May 2026 player discussion supports checking the boss-specific troop type, but it is observation rather than controlled testing.
Kat’s Quiet Keep did not independently measure the 250% debuff cap, internal wounded limit, extra-attempt Gem ladder, alliance-qualification rule or a complete World Boss formula. Current in-game boss text, reward screen, report and prices take priority. Server age and event variants can change rewards. The test method remains useful precisely because Evony enjoys moving the furniture.
