Saved in three places is not owned three times
Evony introduced Military Tactics as preset-bound combat tools and later increased their bonuses while lowering the second-skill unlock from Grade 6 to Grade 4. The current official march-size guide is more specific about Suppression: only one ground formation can carry it, assigned through Create Presets.
Current specialist documentation separates three labels. “Own to activate” effects are described as account effects. “Use to activate” Drill and Breakthrough effects require the tactic on the march preset. Those labels are more useful than the tactic’s total power because they say where the effect is meant to work.
The client may allow the same tactic to be saved in more than one preset. Player reports say that when one march is already using it, a second march launched from another saved preset can leave without that tactic’s effect. Evony has not published a complete current rule for this concurrent-march arbitration. Treat it as a risk to verify, not a formula to repeat.
Give the tactic one primary job
Choose the march that gains the most from the tactic’s exact live lines. If Suppression belongs to the main ground attack, do not also budget it inside a reinforcing march or a second ground march that may leave while the first is away. The second preset needs to remain functional without borrowed paperwork.
- Primary preset: includes the tactic and is evaluated with its active “Use to activate” effects.
- Backup preset: uses a different tactic or no tactic-dependent assumption. Its troop mix and march size must still be safe on their own.
- Account effects: count only lines currently labelled “Own to activate.” Do not move a global line into one march merely because the tactic is pictured there.
This is especially important when two similar ground marches are dispatched close together. The second march should not inherit the first march’s expected size, attack or breakthrough effect in a spreadsheet. Spreadsheets are excellent at lending the same object twice. The server has other hobbies.
Run a two-march check before the important hit
- Record the tactic’s exact live activation labels, grade, skills and the preset that should own the march effect.
- Save a primary preset with the tactic and a backup preset that does not depend on it. Reopen both presets and confirm the visible assignments.
- Send the primary preset on a harmless march and leave it out. Do not use troops, targets or territory that create a PvP risk.
- Open the second preset while the first march is still away. Check the tactic indicator, displayed march size and every visible activation warning before dispatch.
- If the second march leaves, compare its result with the same controlled action after the first march returns. Change one variable. A difference is account evidence for that tactic and client version, not a universal combat law.
Recheck after changing a tactic’s grade, unlocking a skill, editing the preset or increasing march size. A saved preset preserves a plan. It does not certify that every scarce effect remains available when the plan is launched.
Spend after the scope is clear
An upgrade can improve an “Own to activate” account line, a preset-bound line or both. Open the current detail screen and identify which result the next level changes before spending Military Tactic materials. If the intended value exists only when the tactic is used by one march, compare that march’s real priority with the other marches competing for it.
No current complete official cost table or concurrent-march selection formula was found. This article therefore does not rank tactic packages, promise that the first or last march always wins, or treat an old stat table as a current price. The useful stop rule is simpler: do not fund a tactic for two simultaneous jobs until the live client proves it can perform both.
Evidence limits
Official Evony material confirms the feature changes, preset assignment and the current one-ground-formation restriction for Suppression. Specialist guidance supplies the activation-label distinction and reports preset-specific behaviour. Player discussions report that one tactic saved in multiple presets may still serve only one active march. The backup-preset design and two-march procedure are editorial safeguards. Evony has not published the full concurrent-march arbitration, and no independent controlled combat test is claimed here.
